I was listening to ragchewing on 80 meters this morning. They were talking about busses coming up from the south border with illegal aliens coming up this way. They mentioned a drop off point near Cape Cod. If this is true, I suspect possible trouble and things happening. I tried a search for the Dept. of Homeland Security freqs but didnt find much. I remember seeing trucks at check points up near Plymouth NH a few years ago while vacationing up there. There were signs on the sides of vans looking like some type of official government vehicles. Anyway does anyone know where I could find Dept. of Homeland Security freqs that may be used in the New England area?

This might be a good starting place...

Maybe @ChrisP can suggest other sources as well.

It is important to note that when you ask about Homeland Security frequencies, you are talking about a number of varied agencies that operate under the DHS. These include Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and a bunch of others. So it helps to know what particular agency under DHS you are asking about.

In the case of the transportation of illegal aliens, that would most likely be under ICE, in an agency called Enforcement and Removal Operations or ERO. They are responsible for detention and transport of those in the custody of ICE. In some cases the transportation of these persons can be handled by contractors. I have seen some ERO buses that were marked as such, and others that were unmarked.

I would definitely check the CBP frequencies I have on my blog page, but I know ICE has a wide-area VHF network in the NYC/Boston area. I don't have those noted on my blog page, but let me work on it.

Getting your "news" from 80 m is like asking an elementary kid about the toothfairy. But if the government did this, it would be as others noted ICE and they are always encrypted by my experience. DHS is more of a parent agency with the sub-agencies doing the real work.

Mexico-US border-area security and apprehension teams sometimes operate in the clear.

I realize that but things are pretty crazy out there and there might be activity on those freqs.

Wow thats a TON of freqs. I might have to do a manual programming for these.

Please keep us updated if you do find any traffic, conventional or trunked, clear or encrypted, with radio IDs if possible. You may also want to search the fed bands to see if there is anything new.

From what I've heard the buses are commercially contracted once they're moving away from the immediate border inland and when they get off the flights. At least that was the case in the NYC area that made the news
