Ok lets talk about facts. Show where if the police communications are encrypted that crime has gone down. I don't think you will find too many cities that because of encryption or can't listen to police for instant Memphis or Cleveland because of vselp digital or provoice that crime went away.
Read again, I did not state the point you are arguing with.
So, either you can't read, or you are trying to distract from the point!

On the premise of most scanner listeners going out to get in the way of police is minute also.
I also did not say "Most scanner listeners". Just more get in the way than help.
(More reading lessons needed)

But to say that an extra set of eyes will be no help is crazy.
OK, yes, extra eyes are helpfull. Lots of extra eyes provided with information through the PIO, not a FEW extra eyes acting on unfiltered and/or partial information overheard.
( I think I made this point, but you might have missed it with your reading skills)

I wll say also that if you do hear something way across town it is just as crazy to go and get in the way of police or fire or EMS too!
But some do, and it does not mater if it is accross town or down the block.
Either way you are MORE LIKELY to be in the way, then to help!

For the most of us I don't think that we would however if we by seeing a fleeing suspect could help by telling the police where he is and knowing that the police are looking for him would indeed help the police.
Again, true, if you see a suspicious person call 911.
But the number of scanner listeners where this occures is SMALL.
The number who at one time or another get in the way is much larger.
(Don't argue with me, go ask a LEO or a Dispatcher)

And lets not forget that an officer who serves you and me lost his life trying to protect ours. If we scanner listeners could have prevented this I think most of us would if knowing how dangerous this guy was.
This is the invalid and untested conclusion you have JUMPED TO in order to try to make your point.
It does not fly, sorry!

Let's look also at during bad weather that infomation over police radios is the most current info avaible and could save your life someday.
No, the information from weather spotters and NOAA is the most current.
Scan them!!
