Here's what I did way back in the 80s. The stand was actually a wooden dish drying rack bought at Ikea. The angle could be easily made steeper by raising the stand at the back. I can't recall the price, but it was very inexpensive. If there were any devices requiring cables, they could be brought in through the slots in the rack.
By the way, the whole listening post, including the desk and chair, was in a closet, and as you can see by the poster in the background, I was into aviation monitoring at that time.
