Hey all,

I have two handheld scanners, SC200 and Pro-95, and I'm interested in a Desktop/Mobile Scanner, that has free software to program it like Win95 for the Pro-95. Digital is still out of my price range right now.

I haven't really checked into the Desktop/Mobile scanners before, so I really have no clue as to which models have programing software.

Thanks for any help.

You could find a used PRO-2067. Win92 is free and will program it. If you don't mind buying software (it don't cost that much) then you could be open to a whole lot more radios.

Another possibility (that I'm about to buy one of these days) is the PRO-2053. It's basically a destop version of the Pro-93. That's the 500 channel older version of the Pro-95

The 2053 is 300ch, just like the Pro 93. Thanks to a member here, I have a matching set of a 93 & 2053 in addition to the 2053 I already had.

If you have a decent size vechicle, it could work. I just installed the 2053 in my bronco with a temporary mount. I'll try to post some pics when I can.

The 2053 has a very good rx :)

You can convet your 95 files to 93 & 92 for free also.

300...500... one of them numbers! :)

I miss my Broncos. I had a 78 that I restored and "enhanced". :D It didn't survive getting broad-sided by an Impala though.

With the mere pittance the insurance company gave me, I bought an 88. It died after a fight with terminal rust and engine failure.

Now I'm in an Explorer. I like the trips to the gas station a bit more, but I sure do miss the rumble of that 351M through twin flowmasters!

Now if I can figure out the best way to mount a scanner in this critter....

Funny you say that, my other car is a 94 Caprice :)

What year exployer & what scanner are you wanting to mount?

I had an old company truck that was a 90 Bronco II. It was cramped, but it had room for a maxtrac, uniden 700 (small scanner, I know), pro 90, and my 2mte mobile.

You can always take out the passanger seat  Think of all the gear you could mount.

Hmmm..... I could mount my Pro-95 right in the middle of the steering wheel, then run the bailing wire from the power plug to the battery....!!

Oh wait.... air bag.... hmm... might hurt having the scanner removed after deployment!

Well... don't broadside a full sized Bronco driving over 50. You won't like the results!

It's a 2000 4 door. Right now I just have the Pro-95 I take along with me. I'd like to mount it to make it easier to see and hear. It rides ok in the cup holder though. Eventually I'll be mounting a 796D or maybe a 2096 (if I can stand the silver or bring myself to repaint a $500 unit!). Unless I run across a deal on a 2053 first...

Hmmm.....scanners... radios... laptops... tv.... heck..... it even solves the arguments of which kid gets to ride up front!!

Ok... that's it... I'm off to find a mag mount DISH antenna!!
