Detroit Radio Switchover In Progress!

Talkgroups 8040 and 8058 are currently very active checking in units:

8040 is a dispatch talkgroup, often calling "Casino Beat" units.

8058 is "Five Desk"

8040 is 453.350 MHz on the old UHF System.
8041 Three Desk
8046 is Central District?

When the units make the switchover to the MPSCS TRS, they are now going by the new "District" plan, rather than the old Precint IDs. Likewise, the District plan will be in effect on Day shift.

Is anyone else finding that very far outside of the city one needs to have an external antenna in order to hear anything? I live in Westland and I'm not hearing the control channel off of the Detroit tower very well.

I'm 1 mile north of the city limits, and have a difficult time with what appears to be some phasing and cancellation issues between towers. I can hear some of the conversations though..

I'm only hearing every word or so. I really hope that things get better and they start to use the Northville tower as well. At least this way I can hear what's going on.

Detroit system

I live 10 miles south from Downtown Detroit and I am only hearing bits and pieces and scrambles "robotic" voices. Can anyone tell me if it makes a difference if you program the control channels in numerical order first then everything else? Thanks.

10 miles South of Downtown Detroit puts you in Canada. I'm 14 miles Northeast of Detroit and I can't get the Detroit Tower. The scanner has trouble with the Control Channel. I can get the Mt. Clemens, Romeo, Richmond and Northville Towers on my BC796D. With my PRO96 I can get the Detroit Tower if I change position, the problem of living in an apartment.

I live just inside Washtenaw County and I can't hear them for beans! Even with last night's band opening it was very hard to hear them with all the bonking and phasing. Right now, I am only able to lock onto the control channel maybe once every few seconds.

Hopefully, the system only needs some fine tuning and we can hear it better very soon. If not, we might be SOL out here in the suburbs. Right now, the old 453 MHz channels are pretty much dead.

Nooooo, I am NOT in Canada I live in Allen Park, which is south of downtown Detroit. Canada is East of Downtown. If you want to be technical about it I am slightly South West of Downtown.

those of you that are getting hits on the new detroit system.. exactly which control freqs are you receiving. maybe i am checking the wrong control channels. i am checking the 4 freqs listed in the database for detroit simulicast. yes no something else. i have all the local towers programmed in also which are picking up state police, shelby twp, etc.

Detroit Fire Dept. just announced for all their units to switchover to the 800 MHz. radio system. Also, that all dispatching would be done from the new 9-1-1 center and for all units not to use their 150 MHz radios any longer.

It's still not good on the 796, but can get the system on the pro-96 if I play with the location.

Absolutely not...

Absolutely not...

You should only have to program in the control channel and the alternates. The scanner should get the voice channel from the control channel. You should not have to program in the voice channels.

Sounds like Monroe County all over again. A LOT of people who live outside of Monroe County have similar problems listening to the simulcast system. I'm almost convinced it is a phasing issue. I wonder if the same is going to be true about Detroit?

I was thinking the same thing, are they trying to block the signal from interfering with Canada?
