UPDATE:
DETROIT (WXYZ) - The suspect in Thursday's wild police chase through the streets of Detroit is set to be arraigned on charges relating to the pursuit.

Andre Hardy is set to be charged with fleeing and eluding. Officers say the 26-year-old was wanted on multiple warrants stemming from his failure to appear in court on a previous marijuana charge. He also has a long history of traffic violations, including at least a dozen suspensions.

Police say Hardy was behind the wheel of a large SUV officers attempted to pull over for expired tags. Officers say he took off when they tried to pull him over, leading them on a chase that lasted for several minutes over surface streets and freeways before ending when the SUV slammed into a truck at Linwood and the Lodge Service Drive. Hardy was arrested after a short foot chase.

Detroit Police say they broke off the car chase about four minutes into it, but troopers from Michigan State Police continued after the 1995 Ford Bronco. Hardy was eventually taken into custody by a Detroit Police officer.

Hardy has told officers he is a member of the Moorish Nation, and because of that he did not have to stop for them. Members of the Moorish Nation believe they descend from an indigenous group that predates the founding of the United States of America and, because of that, claim they are not bound by the country's laws.

Three people were inside the truck that was hit by the SUV. They have been identified as a man, his wife and their daughter. The couple had just picked up the girl from school. All three suffered minor injuries in the crash. They were treated at Henry Ford Hospital and released.

He claims he's a member of the Moorish Nation? I think he's more of a member of the idiot nation! Another stupid piece of trash! It's a shame that the cops didn't have to use deadly force!

Yea, this news footage also prompted the Internal Affairs bureau to open an investigation on this takedown....total CRAP. I had to replay the video to watch it again. I didn't see anything wrong with how that cop did his job... he took the suspect down with reasonable force to subdue him, and that tap with the nightstick...that just meant he means business.

If they wanna tell the cop he used too much force, than that suspect needs way more charges stacked up on him, like attempted vehicular homicide (I know its not a law, so dont nail me for it. It should be tho, because this guy had no consideration for who or what was in that car.) He could have stopped...but no he decided to t-bone that family of 3 on their way back home from school.

I took a screen shot from the video from when the officer is approaching him. You can see where he is reaching his hand behind him - it looks like maybe in his pocket. Watch the video and take note of that point.

The small amount of force was absolutely justified.

I saw that video. I didn't see the police do anything wrong either. the only thing wrong is I wish the news chopper pilot could've hovered at one good angle instead of orbiting around and losing the shot behind trees & the house. There could've been more action that we missed because of that.

Homie ran around behind that house and for some reason decided he couldn't get out that way & doubled back into the hands of police... The frame you're frozen at is right when he realized he was running into the arms of police and hesitated about whether to try and break to the right & decided not to.

Problem with these kinds of chases is they do create a very dangerous situation for innocent ppl, but you never know why they're running, who or what from. If you let him go and it turns out he was running from the scene of a horrific murder then you feel like you have the victims blood on your hands for letting him go.

This particular accident points out a rule I drive by all the time... Just Because the lights green, doesn't mean it's SAFE to go. Always LOOK in every direction before entering an intersection Even if the light is green for you.

Several years ago, this philosophy saved me from getting T-Boned by a police chase... I was able to follow the chase & even changed a police cars tire very quickly when they got a flat so they were able to get back in the action.

That was back when I was still a very dedicated public servant, before we had thugmaster kwame & his merry band of criminals running things & punishing the good guys.
