Detroit— A major shakeup of the Detroit Police Department includes bringing back most of the city's precincts that were consolidated six years ago, and realigning the department's command structure.
A police source told The News each district will be broken into two precincts. Former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick in 2005 eliminated the precinct system and combined precincts into districts to save money. Most, if not all, of those precincts will be reinstated, the source said.
