DENVER, CO: At least 35 people have been transferred from National Jewish
Health to area hospitals following a hazardous material spill on the
hospital's Denver campus.
National Jewish spokesperson Adam Dormuth says during routine pool
maintenance at the campus' Kunsberg School, Clorox spilled and combined with
hydrochloric acid producing toxic fumes.
Lt. Phil Champagne with Denver Fire says the fumes spread to several
building through the campus' HVAC or ventilation system. As a result, parts
of at least three buildings were evacuated including the Kunsberg School,
which is designed for students K-8 who require medical assistance during the
normal school day.
