DFW Scanning/p-25 Trunking

I was reading through the database at both Dallas and Ft Worth and one ? came to mind, why is it that neither city has gone to p-25 800mhz? I guess if it works, let it be but just curious as to why no switch?

Dallas has the UHF setup and Ft Worth is on analog 800. I see some of the other cities have some p-25 800 mhz but the vast majority don't. I like the setup in both cities but just curious as to the reasoning behind why they have not switched?

Noticed that Chicago uses a UHF p-25 system and makes me wonder if Dallas would explore the same since they use UHF?

Money... Lack ther of at this time. Unless these cities can get the megabuck fed grant, I dont see a migration to P25 for a few years. In the case of Fort Worth's 800 TRS, the parts are starting to get hard to find and there have been quite a few instances of problems with bad channels being locked out of the rotation due to controller card failures and such. The poor foks with the cities radio maint, dept have thier hands full with keeping up with problems and rebanding. There has been mention of P25 in the future but withthe budget woes it's anyones guess.

So maybe a new p-25 system someday once the funding comes in? Makes sense. I was thinking maybe they just like what they are using. I found the system [UHF P-25] in Chicago to be something of interest since they did not go with a p-25 800mhz system.

I guess we will wait and see.

Much of the system changes will not be done until after the Superbowl, Most larger agencies don't want to have a Radio Nightmare while the event is in full swing. Plano and Frisco will be making the switch mid-summer this year but the bigger systems won't until after the game event. The Federal DOJ interop East and West repeaters have been hopping 653 NAC for the fed agencies which will be busy during the event, But Ft. Worth is waiting till the games are finishes - Many are following suite.
