I am trying to scan DIA's EDACS system. The problem is I can't pick up the control frequency. I import it as is from the database here, with the exception of naming the channels DIA 1 and so on. I thought maybe was to far away. I am 21.6 miles away according to google. The problem is I pick up Westminster and broom field and Arvada all like they are next door, and they are father away then DIA is. Chances are it's operator error I will admit. Does anyone out there have an idea what I could try?

Can you hear the CC from your location? Try to manually go through each channel in the DIA system and listen for the CC. If you can't hear it, you will not be able to monitor the system.

You are probably on the edge for reception, it's not a very strong system.

But I am considering dedicating a new feed to DIA Operations.

That could be, maybe I am just to far away. I can still listen to Boulder PD and SO and FD, and they are farther away then DIA. That could be a line of site thing though right?

VHF versus 800Mhz big difference in propagation.

In Littleton hearing DIA is not going to happen. Even when I was on top of the hill in Aurora (15 miles away) the DIA system reception was bad even with a "transmitter" programmed G.E. radio.

Listening to the patched DIA DFD-1 TG on the Denver PS system is the best bet from your home.

It's all about line of site when it comes to land mobile communications.

That and he's probably hearing transmissions off of their Mt Thorodin tower.

It's iffy in the middle of Denver. I can't get it on any of my scanners, (at home) but I have an FMD mounted on my garage wall that will hear it ok. When mobile my 2096 starts picking it up about Colfax & Colo Blvd; then of course it gets stronger as you head east.

Ok so now with my new antenna, I can get the control channel. However there is no % in the lower right side of my screen. What in the world have I done?

Ok so after I posted this, I went back to my scanner and I was getting DIA ok, mostly Security and Runway Maint. Between 20 and 30%. Now this AM nothing, I can't even get a control channel. Weird.

Sounds like you are encountering 800 MHz propagation. Some days distant signals are horrible other days they are just as strong as nearby signals.

Another item to factor in all of this is even though all the transmitters on a trunked system are typically on the same tower each individual frequency will have a varying signal footprint. Some will show a strong signal while others are weak. This is very noticable when monitoring trunked sites from a distance.

This time of year 800 MHz propagation usually occurs in the morning when skies are clear and between sunrise up until noon at the latest.

What is the current patched DIA DFD-1 TG? I have seen it as both 0001 and 0796 and I used to hear it on 0001, but now I don't hear it on either.

I can get DIA now with my antenna up on my roof. It's better at night for some strange and odd reasion but it comes in 99%.
