Started as an amber, turned into a confirmed red a fed ex plane with smoke in the cockpit and heat signatures on the cabin. Multi ambulances and ARFF units so far and EMsystems just activated for 3 or 4 patients.

Plane is a Fed Ex 727 holding the ARFF assignment but picking up other units advising they can handle.

From KUSA:

DENVER - The crew of a FedEx plane used emergency chutes to evacuate their jet at Denver International Airport after the pilot reported smoke in the cockpit.

According to DIA spokesman Chuck Cannon, the pilot reported the smoke in the cockpit of the Boeing 727 while the plane was still in the air at around 8 p.m.

The plane landed safely at DIA and the two person crew evacuated without injuries.

The Denver Fire Department responded but saw no sign of fire or smoke inside the plane. Crews are going through each cargo container to determine the source.

Denver Fire asked FedEx personnel to unload the plane so the investigation could continue.

Firefighters is also having DIA tow the plane back to the FedEx cargo plane.

NTSB investigators are already on scene and plan to go through the plane before FedEx employees unload it.

Do we know if this flight originated from DEN or was it out of MEM and detoured here?

Nothing on the NTSB query yet. I thought I heard (on the audio archive) that they had activated the Fire suppression system (which is SOP and only available for position 1 topside and the belly holds).
