Just thought I would throw a quick review out there for the Diamond D3000N Discone antenna,

The Big brother so to speak of the D130, it is doing a fantastic job at pulling in the new Peel P25 system, Go Transit and the City of Brampton LTR system.....It has improved my CYYZ airport reception about 50%...

No one, anywhere had it in stock, but I found a place in BC that had it...took about a week to get it..

I have it mounted temporarily up around 20 feet above the ground on a tripod mast anchored in to the ground. A temp mounting solution until I can get it up above the house next spring. For an antenna with No Gain, it is superb! Plus having the N style connector is a bonus. I have a 65 foot run of LMR400 going in to it right now, all connections water proofed...

Will get a pic tomorrow.

Looking at the specs on the 3000, it looks exactly the same as the regular D130NJ discones I use.

Exact same overall height, weight, number of elements, transmit ranges, wattage rating, except it says it's good for receive up to 3000Mhz as opposed to only 1300Mhz for the regular discone.

I wonder if it's just a marketing scam. Can't see anything different about it to justify the extra price over the standard discone.

Glad it's working well for you though!

I paid 129.99 canadian for it...not much difference in price....even the D130N...no one had it in stock...durham radio and radioworld said it would be a 4 week wait to get it so i snapped this one up....

Radioworld wants 125.00 for the D130N....

I am finally home this evening and will get a pic..

I've had a D130J for many years; is a great antenna. It looks like the D3000N is only available with a N connector (whereas the D130J has a SO-239).

My iCOM-branded D130 goes back to about 1989. Best I can see from 30 feet below only the little plastic caps have fallen off most of the radials, otherwise it's fully intact and shiny as new. It was built to last and is very much acceptable for general coverage. When augmented by a couple of specialize antennas through coax switches it's an ideal starting point in looking for new signals.

One thing for sure monitoring VHF high band with a discone has gotten a whole lot better since commercial broadcast tv has mostly switched to UHF
If anyone mothballed their discone because of all the VHF intermod issues now might be a good time to hoist it back up night and day difference around here at least

Unfortunately that ended in May when I moved in to a house in Brampton.

Interesting results however. I was very close to the lake Dixie/Dundas area in mississauga, quite low in terms of sea level. In north Brampton, I am much much higher so to speak above the ground. I actually get better results with my AirNav Radarbox up here! Plus, I had a lot of apartments around me, so there was some blockage..... My VHF receiving has suffered though...before I could pull in YYZ crystal clear...every single channel...Now its still decent, but not nearly as good. As soon as I get that discone mounted above the roof line next spring, it should help...

Long Beach ca,
I was also Looking into The D3000N, with it having The N connector & using LMR 400 I think it would do much better on The 800 band, compared to the standard DJ130 ....so are you seeing any improvements on the 800 band.

I have several systems on the 800 band and one on the 900 band (City of Brampton)

Reception is superb. The N connector, plus the LMR 400 cable I am using is a great combo.

I am going to buy the channel master 20 Foot extendable mast to get my antenna up a bit higher...

Cheers,
