I just ordered a diamond rh-77 ca antenna for my radio shack pro 164 hand held scanner, every one says that it is better than the stock antenna and i was wondering what everyone thought about this antenna? Any feedback would be apreciated.

I think you answered your own question:

"every one says that it is better than the stock antenna"

It's better for 150/450MHz bands, but not the best choice for the 800MHz band.

I agree. It just depends on where you're at. It does much better than most on everything but the 800's. The RS800 beats the Diamond hands down. But I usually have the Diamond on to listen to everything else. I own 9 antennas, but I really only use these two.

I like it alot, It does a fantastic job. I listen to 150 - 170 and 450 for the most part.

I got mine in the mail today and have noticed increased reception in the VHF band (hands and feet over the duckie). As for the 800MHz band (we have a 930MHz EDACS system in my parts), it is decent but I think the RS 800MHz works better.

The Diamond CA-77 is absolutely the best for High VHF approx. 136 - 174 MHz.

It works pretty well on 450 too, but the Radio Shack 800 MHz antenna works even better.

You can't get away from it. If you want the best reception possible you'll have to use 2 different antennas.

Now here's a real shocker! I paid $45.00 to a Canadian web site for a rubber duck specifically tuned for 896 - 930 MHz. Believe it or not, the RS 800 works even better that far up the band! The 927 MHz Ham repeaters boom right in!

Now since neither of these antennas are worth squat on Low VHF, any recommendations for a good antenna for that range? For now I would have to go with the RS telescoping antenna but I really don't like using that antenna. I'd much rather have a good rubber duck. Any suggestions?

I have this antenna on a mini mag mount about six feet in the air on top of a hutch with a pretty good piece of metal under it.I live in Bellingham,ma and I've pulled in signals as far away as Fall River which is pretty far away I'm not sure how far.I also have the Austin Condor, but it doesn't seem as sensitive.
