Just ordered this just to see how much of a improvement and if I can get more frequencies above my stock Pro 106 antenna(mine works fine,but always want more ) I'll be getting it tomorrow and will be using it tomorrrow night,can't wait. After that,I'm going to put a outdoor antenna(with research for the right and best kind) up with the help of my son so I can hopefully pull in some of those milair frequencies I really like to listen to.

I don't have a clue where my stock antenna went for the 396. I wish I did I have a ham radio that would use the sma antenna. I always use a old telescopic antenna that I got from a freq. counter from RS years ago. It has not center load it works better then any other antenna I have. I guess because I can adjust the length to the freq. I got a outdoor for home. It does work better but something is not right with it. I know when it gets cold it doesn't work well. I want to move it. When I do I'm going to figure out what is wrong.

Man that antenna is nice,signals are strong and can pick up South Charleston(rubber duckie couldn't) and contrary to what I've heard it does 800mhz systems(in my case AEP) very clear and 5 bars. This scanner is heads and tails the best handheld I've ever had.

I saw the post when it was first posted but didn't realize that it was the antenna I use at home 99% of the time. Yes, it work VERY well. I do however get better reception with the RS 800MHz antenna for Loudoun Co VA (about 40 mile away) while at home. But for the most part, it's great. When I bought my 396XT, I made sure to by one for it as well.
