Just ordered a Uniden BC898T scanner and I am not sure if this is the best for where I live ? [South ST. Louis County] Have not had or done anything with a police scanner in 20 + years. From what little bit I have read here things sure have changed. Seems GREEK to me. THANKS.

It looks like the BC-898T would work for your area. St. Louis City PD frequencies & talk groups can be found at the following link (it is a Motorola Type II trunked system)

http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=TRSDB&sid=629

The following link will let you choose from the vast majority of licensees in your area:

http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&mid=31

You should be able to follow St. Louis city as long as they are NOT digital and NOT encrypted.

There's no better way to catch up then to join a group of like-minded folks, Yahoo has many such groups, and here's one for your area that looks like they're a pretty active bunch;
