• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have an XTS4000, I let a friend borrow it. He kept it in his pocket and apparently bent the **** out of the antenna somehow. I'm not sure if it was transmitting in his pocket but it seems that if I key up the mic, my other radio will pick it up close by but if I key up the mic to known repeaters I've known works in the past, it seems to not hit the repeaters anymore. Is it safe to assume my preamp is screwed? It will still receive traffic though. My fault for letting people borrow my equipment, that's for sure.

Yeah, that sounds like he did something bad to the transmitter. An antenna tied in a knot would certainly do it.

Odds of finding someone to do component level repair on an XTS4000 are very low.
Yeah pretty much, it's a bummer

On a side note, I can still get my other radio to pick up the transmittion near by and can TMS a repeater. Maybe I'm just imagining things. Gonna take it to a radio shop in a few days and have them test it with an RSSI meter to confirm my suspicions

I would compare "apples to apples" reception with another radio. If the antenna were abused, it is possible he broke the internal antenna port connection. (Which would affect both tx and rx)

The radio seems to be getting good reception still and I can still do TMS texting on the same repeaters. It just seems not to be able to hit the repeaters when I'm doing voice transmissions. I would assume there would be a fail code that pops up when I turn on the radio but I'm guessing not?

I kinda doubt that, The reception is still perfect as far as I know. I can still transmit via TMS messages on repeaters far away on low power as well ( approximately 80 miles away on 1 watt) , so i dunno what is going on exactly, its rather strange. On the xts4000, the antenna is built a little differently compared to other radios, doesnt appear to be any visible damage, though Im afraid ill have to open up the radio and bust out the magnifying glass to see if any circuits got fried.

well good news........I guess it was just one of those late night programing days. It turns out the transmitter is fine, Apparently on my personality I had set for HAM use, it was somehow set to transmit on astro mode and not on non-astro mode like I normally do. That was the reason why I couldn't catch any ham repeaters. I didn't catch it until I was doing talk around mode on the ham band doing testing on my other radio, while my working radio had a non-astro receive mode set, I noticed the "broken" radio was transmitting in digital mode which I found strange since its supposed to be set for analog. I wouldnt have normally caught it because I keep my radios on mixed mode receive.
