New 96 for Christmas

Yep, I got one, but Rad Shack didn't have clue what a scanner was let alone how to help program it. I have a PRO-94 which I have program to scan Denver's older trucked system, but want to listen to Jefferson County and Lakewood activity.

What is the best way to start programming this scanner? Do I need to have all the Info input to it statewide or can it work off just the control freqs?

I know I sound like a complete novice, and I am when it comes to this new scanner. I also think I've been given a whole lot of false and confused info.

Control channels are just fine and you don't need the entire state, just 2 or 3 in the area your located to start with.

I would also suggest purchasing the programming cable and using win96 software that sure makes things a lot easier.

Depending on your location there are also some predefined win96 files for the front range on http://www.radiohacker.com/ and those certainly help.

Also check the RR database on this site and remember while the system id's are pretty accurate many of the system frequencies "control channels" are not.
