SDS100/SDS200: Difference between Search with Scan and Custom Search

Can someone explain the difference between Search with Scan and Custom Search?
They seem different to me.
I thought I understood it but it is not working the way I thought.
I thought one can set the ranges in the Monitor Search with Scan Options to Avoid the ones you don't want to scan. Then enable Search with Scan.
But then I see the option in the Custom Search tab in the profile for search ranges. And then there is Search Keys.
I am on a cruise and want to do some additional searches beyond what I have programmed.

Search with Scan This is a special system that allows you to include Custom Searches and the ‘Hits with Scan’ department in Scan Mode. To search and scan at the same time you have to enable Search with Scan in Select Lists to Monitor, "Stop Avoiding" the Search with Scan System with this setting, and "Stop Avoiding" each Custom Search Department in Edit Custom Search and/or the Hits with Scan Department in Close Call Options. Custom Search Allows you to search the scanners 10 programmed frequency ranges. See also Search/Close Call Options and Search for Menu.

Another question.
When searching, does it search all the different modes (analog, digital, DMR, NXDN, etc. (presuming I have those add ons)?

If you open Sentinel and look in the profile settings under custom search, it has a digital wait time setting. IIRC, it will decode whatever it finds as long as paid upgrades are in place.
