when i drive down the freeway sometimes i get the same interference noise on my pro.96 (you know what you get for using a gms cell phone in front of your computer speakers when you dial out or receive a call before picking up.)........
it seems to pick up the signal when my cell phone is near or not.
Anyone had the some problem ?
should i send it up for the 1.3/ 1.4 upgrade ? have 1.75 month left on the 1 year warrantee.

It has nothing to do with the upgrade so that won't solve the problem. Most of us just live with it or selective use of the ATT button helps.

i don't think it can be solved with the att feature because it happens on differed frequencies
but then i'm really new to all of this 8)

I notice this almost every day. Thankfully it only lasts for a few seconds.

My bigger problem is driving in downtown San Diego. 800 MHz comes in horrible down there!

It can't. TDMA (GSM uses a TDMA air interface) interference is usually picked up directly by the speaker. Put the phone near a computer speaker and you'll get the same interference. (We actually use that "feature" when programming new cell phones - put the phone near the computer speaker [within a foot or 2] and you can do something else, and still know when the phone's been updated.)

On the road, I occasionally get interference from what I can only hypothesize to be vehicles or pedestrians with GSM/TDMA phones in my proximity. The sound is quite unique.

Try travelling the same stretch of road with the GSM/TDMA phone turned off. You would be surprised how many feet the interference from a phone can affect a scanner or other receiver. That distance can very greatly depending on the frequency you're tuned to. Although rare, once in a while I get interference from my CDMA/1xRTT phone at certain frequencies (usually VHF-Low -- nowhere near 800/900/1900 MHz!) from several feet away.

I've also seen the same issue with two-way radios. The scanner, oddly enough, does not like strong RF fields.
