How do you tell if a conventional frequency is analog or digital?

Monitor it in ""Conventional" mode.

If it's Digital, it will just sound like white noise.

I don't know if that's an accurate description of what it sounds like (white noise).

It just sounds garbled and unintelligible. You will know when you hear it.

Also, if the frequency is in the database, the mode will be listed. For example, FM if its analog and DMR, P25, etc if it is digital.

Agreed. The only white noise sound I remember was analog DES encryption, don't hear that much anymore. Was mostly federal.
