Monitor it in ""Conventional" mode.

If it's Digital, it will just sound like white noise.

I don't know if that's an accurate description of what it sounds like (white noise).

It just sounds garbled and unintelligible. You will know when you hear it.

Also, if the frequency is in the database, the mode will be listed. For example, FM if its analog and DMR, P25, etc if it is digital.

Yes. Different Digital modes sound different - just unintelligible...
