I was listening and scanning Fort Lauderdale Fire Channels, when I heard some digital traffic on my Pro-96. It had the traditional R2D2 sound, with DG in the upper right hand corner of the display. They were talking on Tac Delta, which I have heard the radio shop use for radio tests in the past. Any ideas from the other listeners that would explain this?

Were you able to get Intelligible voice? Was it truly digital? I myself have not heard digital on the Fort Lauderdale system. If you hear it again, make a note of what frequencies the digital appeared on, as it's not likely that all 23 repeaters are digital capable.

Ft Lauderdale has always had DVP capabilities.

I wasn't sure if the OP was refering to DVP or simply digital modulation. I remember seeing the Pompano Beach Police (before they joined BSO) using DVP on some channels, but only a few repeaters on the system could support it, if I recall correctly.

Ok, so I'm not crazy and it was entirely possible that digital transmissions were being said. I didn't hear the actual voice, the radio was too loud. I could hear the tones on my scanner, but not actually understand the voice.

Was it P-25 digital modulation like you could receive on a PRO-96, or was it DVP encryption? Big difference.

I don't know. I thought I heard someone say the word "clear" at the end of the transmission. I just remember seeing the "DG" in the upper right hand corner of my Pro-96 and saying to myself "wait a minute, I'm scanning Ft. Lauderdale's system, not Hollywoods. What's going on here?".
