OK, I know there's been some stuff written here on the Pro 96 vs. Uniden 296d. But I never got any real information about how the units perform and compare with each other. I'm not interested in V-files, battery pack vs proprietary pack, plastic casing, hook ups to computers and trunker. What I'd like, is what people who have used both radios think about: sensititivty; how well they work mobile in moving vehicals; how well they work supressing interferance from cell towers; how well they supress intermod and interfernce from paging towers, etc; how their audio sounds and compares in analog and digital modes. Is one more immune to cell tower interferance while mobile than the other? Please , no "mines' better than yours" debate. Memory, bells-whistles, batteries, are not important. I'm just interested in how well the recievers work. Thank you in advance.

What I'd like, is what people who have used both radios think about:

One big thing I've noticed is that the GRE models are much less susceptable to false decodes than Unidens. Uniden has a nasty habit of popping up false TG decodes, and displaying one TGID while actually receiving another. Sensitivity is pretty close, but I think the GRE has a slight edge there, too. Although I've never noticed it, the GRE may be a little more prone to intermod due to the slight sensitivity edge.

Everyone that's wrote on the debate comparing the BC296D and the Pro-96 all have one thing in common. And that is the ultimate decision being based on features. I own a 296D and can express to you a multitude of things I like and dislike about it. However, my reason for choosing the Uniden over Radio Shack is simply history of use and feaures. Sure, I would love to have the AGC. But just like a marriage, it's best to love the one you with. Even if you dislike something about it. :wink:

Butch the pro 96 does every one of those things better then the 296 IMHO. Audio and reciever is very close if not the same as the actual moto radio. It also has one touch antennuater when you're close to a cell tower. Of course some times that's not gonna even work. No radio is perfect.
