Digital Noise

I get a lot “digital noise”. Why is that? Many times I can here one side, the other side is all digital noise. I have heard it is because you are the fringes of a tower. Granted, I am mobile, but hat doesn’t really make sense. Isn’t the purpose of the digital system to be statewide? If it is loosing a tower, it switches to anther one.

I've heard half of an encrypted conversation. One guy has Securenet turned on, the other doesn't. Depending on how you have the radio programmed, you can decrypt incoming secure traffic even if your radio isn't in secure mode (obviously you would need the correct encryption key loaded to the radio). A similar thing happens with Astro radios. It will receive analog and APCO. They refer to this as 'mixed mode'.

Lots of reasons.

Your scanner does not had between sites teh way a mobile radio does.

Or

You are listening to simplex and one person is much closer.

What is "digitial noise"? What kind of system is this. What kind of scanner are you using? etc etc etc. You need to provide more information.

At times, you can tell when one side is digitally modulated while the other isn't and can be understood on a scanner.

"Hey Bob! What do you want to do for lunch?"

It is clearly a 'back and forth'. Sounds like mixed mode to me.

The weak side is unintelegeble like a digital signal that is too weak to decode, or digital buzzsaw like a digital signal your scanner can not decode?

Coming across I-69 yesterday. One guy as how the weather is over there on the shore line. Digital noise. The original guy came back and said it was getting ready to rain there. I took the one guy to be over on the west side of the state but I could be wrong.

Scrambled noise could be the correct term. Scrambled digital? I can tell he is speaking, but lots of pops and cracks, hard to explain. Not 60Hrtz noise, and not white noise. Scrambled, or DTMF would probably be the best description.

Running a PRO-2096 with an outside antenna. Michigan MPSCS system.

Sounds like a weak signal.

Is it trunked?

Is it in a repeater?

What band?

Dont know about a repeater.

Digitally trunked maybe? Not normal Motorola trunking.

Michigan State PD, Lower Penninsula. 866 to 868 Mhz range. Had to drive down the highway trying to keep everything between the lines and read the thing. It didnt always do it on one particular talkgroup or frequency that I could see.
