Are the speakers in current digital handheld models about the same in quality? I prefer uniden brand but I'm also curious on gre or the shack brand. Not sure if any other brands make digital models yet.
Speakers haven't changed in the last 80 years or so which leaves you with the same "try it to see if you like it" method we've used all along. Digital has nothing to do with anything, it all comes down to the same old analog audio by the time it gets to the speaker. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and "quality" is a subjective term.

Opps , wrong wording. I meant like the volume or how loud it is. Some models set on high sound louder then others. I remember listening to a shack model and I could barely hear it compared to the uniden one.

I've never seen the Uniden in person, but I have listened to the RS Pro-96 and the GRE PSR-500 right next to each other, and the 500 sounds a lot better to my ears.
