digital trunktracker files wanted

Hi all; I got this from Al Henney, the head honcho at the Capitol Hill Monitors;

We receive regular requests from newbies and visitors for TrunkTracker
talkgroup and frequency lists for our region.

Mike Agner and I have created a file area on the CHM Website to try
and post such files.

We would like to ask for file contributions from those using any of
the Bearcat digital trunktrackers or the Pro-96.

If possible, please include a list of your scanner's zones and let us
know if it is ok to credit you by name.

We would like to use the free ARC backup utility for the Bearcat
radios, ARC250 .mem files and the StarrSoft shareware for the Pro-96.

Changing my submitted .mem files to .zip files no doubt had its reasons but just to test them since someone reported trouble I tried it myself. They won't load back into my scanner now. Perhaps it's just me...oh, and the guy that said he had trouble. That's two.

Dumb question - did you unzip them first? I keep on hearing these same comments, but when Al unzips them and loads them into ARC250, there's usually no problem.

P.S. I just downloaded and installed ARC250 basic, then grabbed 2 files off the ARC250 page, and they both loaded just fine.

In both cases, I right clicked on the file, then...
In IE6, select 'Save Target As'
In Netscape 7.x, select 'Save Link Target As'

I don't know about some of the other browsers such as Opera and Mozilla, sri about that! 73s Mike

Gee, you mean I had to unzip them? Just kidding..yes, of course...saved, unzipped, loaded...the talkgroups are missing...frequencies are loading into channels that had no frequencies. The caveat is that I use the heck out my computers but know little to nothing about programming/internals. Another caveat is that I now suspect it's my Winzip program that's malfunctioning since I had to download another zipped program last night that's also giving me fits. It's either that or I just don't know what the hell I'm doing when it comes to zipped files. A very distinct possibility. Tell me again why zipping/unzipping is necessary to begin with. These files aren't that large, are they?

It's always safer to ZIP (or suitable substitute- RAR, etc) an executable or a text file for transmission and storage over the internet as all archive formats today support CRC16 or CRC32 to ensure that the data is intact. Lost packets and transmission errors happen, which can destroy a text file that has to be exactly precise like .mem or .spg files. If even one space is in the wrong place or there's 1 character of garbage the whole file can be ruined.

Edit: As a side note, make sure the person submitting the file mentions the version of ZIP/WinZIP/WindowsXP ZIP they used... WinZIP 9 changed the ZIP file format and archives created with WinZIP 9 can't always be opened (or not extracted properly) in previous versions or by Windows.

The only identification I have on my zip programs are Winzip 32 and Stuffit 8.0 so I'm not sure if there could be a mismatch since I don't know which version was used to change the .mem files I submitted to .zip files. Anyway, if anyone has a problem downloading my files from CHB, let me know and I'll send you the .mem version directly.
