Digital use in Central San Joaquin Valley

Any digital users out here?

If so, as a Pro 95 user. What am I missing?

I have been bit hard and looking for any reason to justify getting a Pro 96.

The only ones I know of are THE City (aka San Fran) and that area, and Travis AFB. Don't think there's anything down as far as you, but I might be wrong. The DB doesn't even have any TRSs listed down there (which was also a discussion some time ago). SO, at least to the north of you, you're not missing anything. You'd probably do much better with a scanner that did PL/DPL decoding, though. Just a thought.

What is PL/DPL decoding? Does the Pro96 support PL/DPL decoding?

Sometimes I hear series of tones/beeps. Is that un-decoded PL/DPL signals?

Ok, let me see if I can get this straight. A scanner that supports PL/DPL decoding will allow me to enter the Freq/PL pair to identlfy a specific user that is sharing a common frequency with other users.

Therefore, with the Pro95 I only enter a frequency value into a storage channel and with a scanner that supports PL/DPL I would enter both frequency and pl values into a storage channel.

That is exactly correct. If multiple agencies (not the users on the system) use the same frequency, the tone will allow you to identify which agency you are listening to. It filters out those agencies that you do now want to listen to. If your scanner doesn't do decoding, any agency on that frequency, regardless of tone, will be picked up. Up here in Sacramento, I have CHP Capitol OPS, Richmond PD, and a little further away is Santa Rosa PD. They're all on the same frequency, but use different tones (I know, don't flame me...Santa Rosa and CHP use the same tone, but they're too far apart to pick up at the same time from here in Sacramento). The only way to keep them straight is with the tone decoding.

No problem, it does not seem like there is much in the way of digital/trunked/milair down here in Fresno County.

I'm having too much fun learning all this new stuff. I really like my Pro95 and using Win95 has really simplified the programming. I was wondering weather it is worth returning the 95 and getting a 96.

Now, I haven't lived in Fresno since I got run out of town and joined the Army 20 years ago, but between NAS Lemoore and the CA ANG 144th Fighter Wing at the Fresno Airport, you should be able to hear "some" MILAIR.

For the ANG ops at Fresno try 138.150 and 298.300 and for NAS Lemoore ops try 299.300, all AM. (all from the current DOD FLIP)

Thanks for the info, I'll add those freqs and see what happens.

BTW, I came across some infomation on www.scancal.ord that lists Madera County using some digital systems (Madera PD).
