Why does Uniden only produce scanners to fit in a vehicle that are DIN-1 size?
Many vehicles have had DIN-2 sized space for a radio for over a decade.

The two sizes are shown here:

DIN-2 size would provide space for a much larger display, and A-Z keys to save messing around with scrolling thru the entire character set when entering a name, and could provide Quick Keys based on letters and digits not just digits. You could easily fit well over 26 keys on a DIN-2 scanner front panel.

Obviously there is the issue of car makers virtually building any radio into the dashboard these days, rather than making replacement easy.

Most din2 units have navigation and a bunch of other stuff, sometimes proprietary to the car maker, integrated into them.

You would either need to give up all that stuff for a scanner, or you would need for a scanner manufacturer to develop a software radio that can be added to the proprietary stack.

I don't think either is going to happen.

Most din1 units are not installed in the dash, unless the vehicle had no stock radio or the owner gives up the radio for the scanner. Most are bolted index the dash with a rack or some other installation.

Uniden used to have the remote head and now uses wifi so the radio is installed under sears or in the trunk. Whistler has the similar remote head tethered to the radio, installed other than the dash.

Not saying your idea of a din2 scanner wouldn't be great, but only if I could install it in addition to the din2 equipment already in the car.
