I will apologize in advance if this has already been asked/answered. I'm new to the forum and new to the PRO-96, having just upgraded from the PRO-94.

With the PRO-94 working a Motorola Type II system, I was able to manually type in a desired talk group ID for "hold" monitoring. It was a simple process of hitting "hold", then typing in the talk group ID followed by "hold" again. Quick, easy.

Is it possible to perform a "direct talk group entry" with the PRO-96? I have not found out how yet. I don't expect it to be like the 94, but It'd be a shame if this functionality did not exist.

Thanks,

Aaron

Welome to the boards my friend, you have found a forum for all your answers to questions about the scanning hobby!!!

I don't think this can be done with the pro96, all I do is wait for the talk group to appear then press pause.

Here is another way :

Press MAN
Press FUNC TRUNK
Scroll to the desired TG
Press FUNC TRUNK

You are now HOLDING on that TG

To release the HOLD press SCAN, PAUSE or TRUNK

This way you don't have to wait for a transmission from the desired TG.

Since nobody answered the question yet, here is how to do direct entry:

1. Press PGM TRUNK
2. Go to the TG channel you want to enter the TG into (I use the last one since it will adopt any text tags used earlier in the list)
3. Enter the TG number (if it's a dup, press enter twice)
4. Press FUNC TRUNK

Once you've selected the TG channel in step 2, you can skip that step next time. The scanner will remember which channel you programmed last.

IOW, in short form: PGM TRUNK (enter TG) FUNC TRUNK.

Now, that's REAL direct entry.

Again, it's really sweet that you don't have to enter the text tag, but the scanner will use a text tag if you've programmed it into another TG. This only works if you use the last TG channel as your direct entry one. That way, all the other TGs will be before it in the list and the text tag will magically appear.

I dont think he was asking how to program a TG. I think he was asking how to go strait to a TG to monitor after it has already been programmed in. Thats the way I took it anyway.

O.K. I actually RTFM and found out how to "kinda" direct hold a TG on page 91. In short:

1. MAN
2. FUNC, TRUNK
3. up or down scroll to select a TG ID in the current bank/sub group OR hit TRUNK until you get the sub group you want.
4. FUNC, TRUNK

Scanner will enter ID HOLD mode. The description shown using the PGM TRUNK keys works just as easily. It may even be better because when you hit MAN in trunking mode you get to hear the annoying control channel in all it's glory. (watch that pesky PRO-96 volume knob!)

This is NOWHERE near as easy as the PRO-94, but the 94 didn't support alpha tags so I had to know each TG id. Not cool. Now I simply look for the text that I entered and away I go. Not bad.

I tried both these methods, neither worked.

Then i turned the scanner ON. This is a very important thing that you must do FIRST.

MORE CAFFINE PLEASE
