With the SE Indiana feed down, are there any HF frequencies in use that some of us from other parts of the state can monitor to hear any radio traffic from the tornado affected areas? In addition, my thoughts and prayers are with everyone who is in some way affected by this disaster. I have customers in the affected areas who I have yet to have a chance to speak with to make sure they are OK.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to those communities, families, and individuals affected by this disaster in southern Indiana. Additional prayers and "thank yous" for those first responders, relief agencies, weather spotters, etc. who helped warned everyone ahead of the storm and who are assisting in recovery. We are blessed to have such a great group of citizens called Hoosiers who are helping any way they can.

I know DHS District 4 Task Force were staging last night at Lafayette with units from Tippecanoe County EMA, Tippecanoe County EMS, Tippecanoe County Sheriff, Lafayette Fire/Police, West Lafayette Fire/Police, and Purdue Fire/Police.

In regards to communications, I'm hearing a lot of communications on Statewide Mutual Aid Channels 01-10 this morning off the Lafayette SAFE-T site. IPSC is doing a great job in supporting radio communications. As far as I can tell, all SAFE-T infrastructure is up and operational.

S/W MA-1 is used as command
S/W MA-4 is being used for Washington County

Thanks, Tim. I have had 3.910 dialed up but haven't been hearing much. I have heard some traffic on the statewide mutual aid talkgroups but thought maybe there'd be more amateur traffic coming out of the area.

For Kidclerk: you might listen to 3.910 for Indiana State RACES

The Indiana ARES Section Emergency Coordinator has advised ARES members that ARES has been activated in several District 9 counties. The SEC has stated very clearly that ARES members from outside the affect areas are to not self-deploy to the area. To the best of my knowledge, those county ARES teams have not requested outside assistance except Ripley County which asked for assistance yesterday with damage assessment in Holton. A group of ARES members from Decatur County went to Ripley County to assist, but was was not able to access the Holton area.

I am not aware of any RACES response, either state or county, in the affected areas. However, I did recognize the voice of one local ham on SW-MA1. He is a communications specialist with Indiana Task Force 1.

As long as the communications needs of these localized groups can be met with VHF/UHF, I doubt we'll hear much on HF.

Also was told that cell phone service is down due to the cell phone towers being out of service because of a lack of signal.
Verizon has indicated that their cell tower in the Henryville area is functioning, but has limited connectivity to the outside world because of problems with the data lines that feed the tower. Verizon engineers have re-aimed the coverage patterns of adjacent towers to provide more coverage in the Henryville area. And "buttons" are being pushed with the data carrier and Federal emergency communications resources to get the affected data lines restored.

Radio Traffic was heard today Sunday 3-4-2012 on SW-MA 1*** that Task Force One could not get a signal in the area for cell phone service***.In the event of a Emergency it woud be a great idea to monitor the Secure Radio Net on HF for The State of Indiana listed in the RR Wiki. 2326.0 2487.0 2511.0 5135.0 5140.0(Interstate Coordination) 7802.0 (Daytime use) 7805.0 (Interstate Coordination) and 7935.0(Daytime).

Cell phone coverage has always been spotty down there. Seems like you always drop calls by the rest areas on 65 which are just north of Henryville.

Yes that is an A/B system switch fault... system switches, or should but always drops. Problems is worse when driving south.

There is a tower in Henryville, also ATT and Sprint. They are about 2 miles North of the exit, just before the rest stop.

There was a tower unknown (I think Cricket) that is probably down right at I-65 at Henryville exit.

District 4 Comms

We were caravaned down to New Pekin on SW MA 4 unfortunately after we got south of Indy some of the caravan did not have Omnilink in their radios. Most of Saturday's operations were on 8 TAC 92 and 8 TAC 94 and at times we were on SW MA 4 when the task force moved out into the county. The Safety T tower was down in New Pekin , IPSIC was on scene with the SOW to accommodate us but we were able to communicate with our responders. later in the morning the SOW was moved up to the Henryville. area. Omnilink Worked well for Task Force Seven as they departed Vigo Co. this am...Central turned a dispatch station on SW MA 7 and it followed the caravan all the way down to the staging point and then they called Central and advised them they were on scene,,,bout a 3 and half hour trip, but they did stop for breakfast around Columbus
