Discone Antennas vs. Unity Omni Antennas

I'm looking to get comprehensive VHF/UHF coverage throughout Fresno.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of using discone antennas compared to omnidirectional fiberglass antennas?

Is there a thread or wiki page that already discusses the pros and cons?

Both are unity gain antennas. The radiation patterns should be pretty similar. The space you have to erect the antenna may be one limiting factor. The discone will take up more space. Fiberglass has better weather resistance.

As is always the case, the antenna can be the biggest limiting factor in how well your radio(s) work so do some research and go with the best you can afford and get good coax as well.

I have a discone mounted in my attic and it performs well. I did feel my scantenna out performed the discone.
