I have read from other posts that it`s not a good idea to run the cable down the center of the mast on a discone antenna due to stretching issues. My question would then be, Is there an alternative to attatch a discone to the mast? And if so what is needed for the mounts? Thanks.

Proper strain relief would fix that. The center mast of the discone would be clamped to the support mast, not attached to the top. As soon as the coax exits the short mast the discone sits on, use suitable UV resistant tape or ty-wrap to secure the feed line. If this is a commercial installation, appropriate attachments to the tower and coax run support should be used.

How would the discone be clamped to the mast if it were not sitting at the end of the mast as normally done? I assume there must be seperate hardware needed in order to attatch the discone offset the mast, almost like the Scantenna has hardware to be attatched to the mast so that the cable runs outside the mast.

Stainless steel worm drive hose clamps (radiator hose clamps) work well for light weight antennas like this. I scored a free discone from work but the mounting clamps were corroded. I put the two mast sections side by side and used two of the radiator hose clamps, one near the top, one near the bottom, and it's worked fine for a couple of years now. LMR600 with an N connector runs down the inside of the discone tube and out the bottom. It's ty-wrapped with the black zip ties (they are UV resistant) down the mast. No issues, and all crap I had laying around the shop.

usually just a single loop in the coaxial cable below the tube then attached to the mast will help ease the weight strain on the cable and give it some room to hang without having all the weight of it pulling down on the head.
