Discone vs ScanMaster B1300-n 1-piece Fibreglass Base Scanner Antenna

new to scanners I have a whistler 1065 in the UK problem is what antenner Discone in the loft easy except I have solar panels or b1300 outside my window below the gutter but im not aloud antenna's on or outside my new house it wont be seen from the front but I don't want to put it on a pole just use the bracket it comes with can this be done with no pole or will it be the same with a discone in the loft which is best? love it in the loft but solar panels? made a diepole for airbands that works ok

Try the discone in the attic. Try putting at either end to minimize the shielding from the panels.

If you don't get the desired results figure out a new location.

? What frequencies do you desire to receive?

My guess is that the ATTIC is the worst possible place to put the antenna.. Too much noise from Solar Panels if controller is located nearby, and the panels probably acts like a shield - blocks signals. If it is just a group of frequencies in the same band I would suggest using a directional yagi pointed near a window in the direction desired. Several well known hams uses this approach to operate 6 meters with the assistance of a step ladder in the bedroom.. In my opinion it would have to be a pretty big bed room to operate 6 meters - but to each his own..
