Discontinued Scanners at Radio Shack...?

Radio Shack never ceases to amaze me with their web site, and marketing strategies!

You all probably remember when the PRO-96 disappeared from their web site, and we wondered if it was discontinued, and if a new model was coming out. Then someone from Radio Shack gave the explanation that it was a new policy to remove items from the web site when they were no longer in stock. However, shortly after, the PRO-2096 ran out of stock, for over a month, but was never pulled from the web site, like the PRO-96 was. Interesting!

Now I have noticed that the following scanners from Radio Shack have been discontinued:

Pro-Scan C100-8, #20-331
PRO-83, #20-501
PRO-2051, #20-426

Yet even though they have been discontinued, they have remained on the web site for some time! Very confusing. :roll:

Interesting... Why in the world would they do that? I was actually at a Radio Shack store here in NJ yesterday. I saw at least 5 pro-83's sitting on the shelf. If I'm not mistaken, on the RS website, you can do a search for products that are in stock at perticular stores. Why would they remove items from the site if they are still available in some stores??

That just doesnt make sence to me.

Exactly! That's the point I'm trying to make here. Even more so, why did they remove the PRO-96 just because it wasn't available as a web, or telephone order! All the local stores in my area had tons of them, but if you went to the web site, and you were not familiar with the PRO-96, you wouldn't have even known it ever existed! And like you say, you wouldn't be able to search stores for local stock.

Not true...I saw it then, and I still see it now, and it hasn't changed. Besides these discontinued scanners have been listed as discontinued on the site for several weeks now.

Hello Friends:

All I can bring to this discussion is that here in
Puerto Rico the PRO-83,PRO-92,PRO-97 are not
longer aviable here in any Radio Shack and a lot
of the ham radios are gone to!! soooooooooo sad

Looks like they made an effort to clarify things...they put little "In Stores Only" by the discontinued items. That's better.
