BC250D: Discriminator question

I have a BC250D with a malfuncting squelch/volume knob- I do not get any audio when i try to scan. My question is if I tap the discriminator will it bypass the squelch knob? I'm running it thru multipsk and also thru unitrunker so noise isn't a problem- with this help with my problem?

The discriminator tap point on every receiver diagram I have seen is before the baseband audio goes to the audio amplifier and squelch circuits. The volume and squelch controls should not affect the discriminator tap audio.
