Discriminator Tap uses??

I just put a disc. tap in my pro 95 and am running t4win but my question is, are there any other uses or programs for the tap other than to decode trunking info? I saw something about ship plotting but i may have misunderstood. Got today off and want to play some scanner....

There's always pager decoding but that's OMGILLEGAL for most people.

with additional software or hardware:
ACARS, AIS (ShipPlotter), identify PL tones, identify pager tones (i.e. Fire Tapouts),
SSTV (our local amateur 2M FM repeater has a net), Amateur radio packet,
to name just a few uses.

There are also ACARS decoding and pretty much anything you need a good clean signal for will benefit from the discriminator tap since it outputs unfiltered audio.

Although running from the ear phone socket would have been sufficient, I used the discriminator tap when decoding CW and other data modes using my old MFJ MUltireader.

Any AR8200 portable owners may have noticed that you can purchase a cable for direct access to the discriminator tap (OS8200).

You don't NEED to have a discriminator tap to decode ACARS messages though.

Is there a good list of decoders and software for things other than trunked systems (i.e. MDT decoding, multipurpose decoders). I check the wiki, but it only had a great list of trunked decoders.

You aren't finding much if any MDT or pager information here because for the most part, the it is illegal for the vast majority of RR readers to be attempting such endeavors. You'll have to be a pretty crafty searcher of the internet if you want to dig up any information on MDT stuff.

Ive been looking and found a few programs for research purposes to decode certain messages... Dont how how to work them though.

You aren't finding much if any MDT or pager information here because for the most part, the it is illegal for the vast majority of RR readers to be attempting such endeavors. You'll have to be a pretty crafty searcher of the internet if you want to dig up any information on MDT stuff.

Not really. I googled "mdt decoding" to check if what you said is true... 6 results down looks to be what he/she is looking for. No, I didn't actually try it.
