Are there any scanners out there that have a discriminator tap built into them right out of the box? And if I want to decode a NexEdge or MotoTorbo system would I need a digital scanner or would an analog one work?
I don't believe any of the current crop of scanners have a built in tap (the Control channel output of Unidens and the output of the GRE/RS scanners probably have some buffering built in before the output is sent out, in all likelihood), although some of the wide band radios do.
You don't need a digital scanner to use DSD AFAIK - any old analog will do...best regards..Mike
I believe that is a tap that uses a buffer, which might not work with DSD. I would ask in the digital voice forum (where DSD is discussed) before plunking down your money.
