Discriminator Tap

Is there anyone in the Lansing area that has the know how, time and willingness to install a discriminator tap on a couple scanners I own. Of course I would compensate you for your time/expertise. I took a crack at it myself with a couple older scanners with less than stellar results. If you are outside of the Lansing area, I would be willing to ship the scanner to you (return postage paid as well of course!)

Canidates for tapping include: BC 50XL, BC 60XLT and BC 396T.

Also, does anyone know if State Electronics would perform this type of service?

Sorry, i didnt make that clear. He has a section on that site where he will do a discriminator tap for you. You mail your scanner to him and he will add a tap to it for a charge.

Data Slicer

Data slicers like the ones in the link take the signal from a radio's discriminator tap
, an audio feed sometimes referred to as "baseband audio" and converts it
to good old fashioned serial port data, capable of being read by a computers
comport.

This data is then decoded by programs such as those that monitor the control
channels of trunked radio systems, or other types of radio data such
as POCSAG or GOLAY paging systems.

Now days, though alot of people just use sound card decoding programs, that
eliminate the need for a slicer for many applications.
