As has been mentioned several times previously, the upgrade is not available yet.

When the firmware with the DMR capabilities made is available, you will update your scanner using the "update firmware" function in the Sentinel software, and then purchase a key from my.uniden.com

.

Some can purchase the key right now on myuniden.com

Here is the wording when clicking to buy the key when I was logged in,

"You are purchasing an activation key for the Digital Mobile Radio Upgrade for the BCD436HP and BCD536HP scanners. This key will activate the DMR features once we release the supporting firmware, which will occur at a future date. By continuing with this transaction, you acknowledge that you understand that you will be charged immediately for this upgrade. In consideration for this pre-purchase, you are receiving a discounted price of $50 for the upgrade.

If you want to know more about the upgrade, see the details at DigitalMobileRadioUpgrade < UnidenMan4 < TWiki.

CLICK TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND PROCEED CLICK TO CANCEL

*Waves hands frantically amongst a sea of ESN, Serial and key posts in the hope of an answer*.

UPMan,

Quick question.

Will the Australian units released through agreement with Pacific Telecommunications for the Country Fire Authority in Victoria, Australia be able to receive the firmware upgrades?

Many thanks in advance.

Hey all,

I don't live in this world and only use my scanner on occasions where I have some free time so I'm not up to speed on it like most here. So please pardon my lack of awareness but.....how do you know if DMR is used in your area? I read this thread and noticed that the RR database needs updating due to so little past scanning.....

I see where Pro Voice is used in only 1 country in my state (MS)..... So I haven't upgraded to Pro Voice since that country is 200 miles from me.... So that makes me curious about DMR usage in my area.

Thanks for helping me get up to speed.....

If you are a paying member, click the 2 links below and select your state.

So will these DMR systems be just as easy to load into the scanner and "search" for as the rest of the systems that can already be listened to?

I'm seeing a lot of TGID this or time slot that....... Fully intend on pre-ordering but kind of want to know what I'm getting myself into. I would hope a Wiki would pop-up about this for those of us new to DMR.

Amen! I'll second that motion!

I plan to buy the DMR upgrade just as soon as it's available, but I'm new to the technology and terminology.

Thanks, Paul!!!

Will future new BCDx36's include DMR as a standard feature, or will they have to be upgraded as well?

As a further investment in their customers, Whistler will be offering a DMR update at no charge to customers owning models WS1080, WS1088, WS1095, and WS1098. This upgrade will be available via the EZ Scan pc app later this month.

Caught Me!

K7MHI -

You got me! I have been using RR for years, and read the forums pretty regularly, but today I had a burning question and asked it. It was painless and I may do it again, someday! LOL

A nice advancement for scanners ,..however Unlike a public funded service such as Police & emergency services ,..that some would argue the right to be able to monitor ,...Most of what is on DMR is,..is the second line responders Private companies that have no obligation to transparency or obligation to let you monitor them ,..tow trucks ,..private ambulance services , buses ,taxi's , private investigators etc,.. all sorts of things have moved to DMR & the main selling point was the privacy ,..there is no scanners made that can listen to your traffic,..Well, now once again those salesmen will go running to the subscribers of these systems convincing them it's urgent that they purchase a privacy upgrade due to recent developments ,..& they they will even offer them an emergency discount if they get it early ,... Thats the harsh part ,..All these people are going to drop a ton of cash on these scanners & inside of a year I predict anything worth monitoring will start going encrypted,..It's a great development & I hate to be a wet blanket about it ,..but the reality is its just going to be too easy for them to mitigate the entire reason for a DMR scanner ,..Now I am tied to my pc with my sdr usb stick ,..but I can monitor all DMR modes ,...& if they go enc ,..I'm out 8 bucks ,...thats what I paid for my usb dongle on ebay ,.. So I dunno I think sometimes leaving things the way they are might be best ,..like anything else once it goes mainstream & everyone's doing it ,..a counter will come out for it ,..but these days ,..they can counter it a lot faster ...

Yes, I am sure, but as a former Product Manager, and a former journalist, I am obligated to ask. Sometimes they (we) answer inappropriately and kimono unexpectedly opens .

Well, it's mainstream or nothing. I'll take what I can get. This cat and mouse has been going on for decades, since audio inversion was new and mysterious.

So. ...no indication at all. ...not even a little hint as to when the DMR upgrade might be available?
