A nice advancement for scanners ,..however Unlike a public funded service such as Police & emergency services ,..that some would argue the right to be able to monitor ,...Most of what is on DMR is,..is the second line responders Private companies that have no obligation to transparency or obligation to let you monitor them ,..tow trucks ,..private ambulance services , buses ,taxi's , private investigators etc,.. all sorts of things have moved to DMR & the main selling point was the privacy ,..there is no scanners made that can listen to your traffic,..Well, now once again those salesmen will go running to the subscribers of these systems convincing them it's urgent that they purchase a privacy upgrade due to recent developments ,..& they they will even offer them an emergency discount if they get it early ,... Thats the harsh part ,..All these people are going to drop a ton of cash on these scanners & inside of a year I predict anything worth monitoring will start going encrypted,..It's a great development & I hate to be a wet blanket about it ,..but the reality is its just going to be too easy for them to mitigate the entire reason for a DMR scanner ,..Now I am tied to my pc with my sdr usb stick ,..but I can monitor all DMR modes ,...& if they go enc ,..I'm out 8 bucks ,...thats what I paid for my usb dongle on ebay ,.. So I dunno I think sometimes leaving things the way they are might be best ,..like anything else once it goes mainstream & everyone's doing it ,..a counter will come out for it ,..but these days ,..they can counter it a lot faster ...
