And for those of you who missed it, 2 new Whistlers coming with the word free in the description.

The Whistler TRX-1 (handheld) and TRX-2 (desktop/Mobile) are multi-system adaptive digital trunking scanners with Motorola P25 Phase I, X2-TDMA, Phase II and DMR making them capable of monitoring the following unencrypted channels/systems.
 Conventional DMR (Entered as a DMR trunked system)
 Hytera XPT
 MotoTRBO™ Capacity Plus
 MotoTRBO™ Connect Plus
 MotoTRBO™ Linked Cap Plus systems
Additionally, Whistler is announcing that development of NXDN monitoring is also underway and the TRX-1 and TRX-2 will include NXDN as a FREE upgrade when available.

So. ...no indication at all. ...not even a little hint as to when the DMR upgrade might be available?

why give one - they are going to go "way over the date" and we will all b**ch about it any way thats why they are charging us $50 not $100 for the upgrade so we complain less, where is that android app.. where are the updates to the apple app. who cares just pay $50

some beta people have it but its gonna be like a month they will release it like a day before whistler products are available

if you dont have $50 stop voting for politicians that keep minimum wadge low. (im making jokes)

As a further investment in their customers, Whistler will be offering a DMR update at no charge to customers owning models WS1080, WS1088, WS1095, and WS1098. This upgrade will be available via the EZ Scan pc app later this month.

The gloves are off

As someone who isn't buying any of these new models or features, thanks to the terrible Canadian dollar, I will be kicking back with my bucket of popcorn enjoying the show :)

My Question is im guessing uniden is using the actual SDK from Motorola which they are paying for, is whistler using a reverse engineered type of decoding? how can they offer it for free

Absorb it into their costs and account for it elsewhere.

Paul,

I inadvertently entered my BCD436HP's ESN, instead of its physical serial number (I hadn't seen your online registration guidance yet), in the first serial number field on the my.uniden.com registration page.

I was able to correctly enter the ESN in the proper field on that page and received the DMR upgrade key.

Will the incomplete physical serial number on Uniden's product registration page be a problem?

Thanks!

Well said. Since I can only listen mainly to casinos, a couple hospitals and an aquarium, probably all on the fringe of my range, its not worth any investment right now.

I will, however, upgrade my 1095 for this capability for free just to see what might be out there, and whether its of any interest to monitor.

Sounds like a lot more DMR stuff might be discovered now that people can do it with a scanner rather than dongles and SDR. If something more interesting than what is identified so far shows up, then a future investment might be warranted if encrypting things doesn't overtake the situation.

Whistler did sort of throw down a better hand after Uniden turned their cards face up. Seems like this round, at least initially, goes to Whistler.

You might be right about more systems being found now that scanners will have DMR capability. Using a SDR with DSD+ is fun, but it's not for everyone.

As to encryption, I don't think that it will be very widespread. Most of the traffic I hear on MotoTrbo systems in my area is oil delivery, construction companies, livery services, school buses, chair vans, plumbing companies, and a few ambulance services.

The only two ambulance services in my area that use encryption are on conventional frequencies. One uses multiple NXDN repeaters with encryption and the other uses conventional UHF repeaters with voice inversion scrambling.

There is no public safety DMR in my area. Some DPWs use conventional DMR radios, but none of them are encrypted.

Tried to pay for the DMR update but....

Let´s see.
I bought my 436hp in the US... but now I´m in Spain.
registered my scanner, filled all the information needed.. and when I was ready to pay $50 bucks I found you can only put a credit card with a US billing address.

Any option for uniden scanner owners out of the US ?
it´s a pity you don´t allow entering a foreign billing address for hams like me using a credit card from my country

Think about it or find a solution pse
tnx

Need an answer please!

This question keeps going unanswered. How long is the reduced price upgrade good for?
As luck would have it, my 436 is at Uniden getting the clock issue fixed. They received it last week but I have not been able to get a status update probably because they haven't gotten to it yet. So I need to know how long the reduced price period is. I never registered it so I don't have the specific numbers needed to complete the transaction.

I'm in the same boat. My 536HP is on it's way back to Uniden for a repair. I'd hate to miss the window of opportunity for the pre release pricing.
