I'm in the same boat. My 536HP is on it's way back to Uniden for a repair. I'd hate to miss the window of opportunity for the pre release pricing.

Just guessing here but those of you with scanners on the way to Uniden have nothing to worry about the window closing. The repair process is pretty quick and I don't see the window closing anytime soon until it's ready for release and we know how Uniden operates, LOL. Also the fact that whistler is offering a free upgrade may effect if the price will increase.

I think if it wasn't for Hamfest 2016 or Whistlers early rumors, we wouldn't have heard anything from Uniden until they were ready for release.

My Question is im guessing uniden is using the actual SDK from Motorola which they are paying for, is whistler using a reverse engineered type of decoding? how can they offer it for free
Probably other way around. Look at a wonderful job they did on the siren app and missing features promised
when the radio ( 436 / 536 ) were released

I would think the Whistler announcement SHOULD have an effect on eventual pricing.

Now that they promised a lower intro price, I suspect it will go up, but as I recall, the extreme upgrade for the HP radios went from $100 to $50. I don’t remember if there was any early adoption pricing for that.

In any case, I suspect once they have generated the revenue desired on the DMR upgrade, it will drop back to $50. Anything more and they would be giving a pretty good price advantage to Whistler, at least with existing radios.

Also sounds like Whistler is taking the upgrade backward compatible for a larger group of already existing radios.

Decisions, decisions, decisions,,

And for those of you who missed it, 2 new Whistlers coming with the word free in the description.

The Whistler TRX-1 (handheld) and TRX-2 (desktop/Mobile) are multi-system adaptive digital trunking scanners with Motorola P25 Phase I, X2-TDMA, Phase II and DMR making them capable of monitoring the following unencrypted channels/systems.
 Conventional DMR (Entered as a DMR trunked system)
 Hytera XPT
 MotoTRBO™ Capacity Plus
 MotoTRBO™ Connect Plus
 MotoTRBO™ Linked Cap Plus systems
Additionally, Whistler is announcing that development of NXDN monitoring is also underway and the TRX-1 and TRX-2 will include NXDN as a FREE upgrade when available.

Did you all catch the last line? Free?

Whistler could give the entire scanner away for free and I wouldn't be interested. There's a massive, perceptible gap in quality between Uniden and Whistler products. I'd much rather pay Uniden for a much better design, premium materials and solid engineering... I'll never trade in any of my Audis for a Kia.

Don't think that the 436/536 being out for repair should be a problem as long as the scanner is already registered at myuniden. I went to the all my scanners page and the link to purchase the upgrade was there. Since the 436 was already registered I did not need to re-enter the serial number.

Wow, I don't check RR for about 24 hours----and all this happens! Just pre-registered the 436, very smooth transaction. Now-----I can hope my 668 gets the Whistler updates. This has turned out to be a great radio week.

Pre Paid from Argentina

Sticky thread in the correct forum for this topic.

Dear UPMan Writing you from Buenos Aires , Argentina to tell that I have got my BCD536 HP and it´s registered at MY UNIDEN Site without any troubles. I enter my SN and the 3 CHECK SUM numbers.

But when I want to pay, using my international credit card, the DMR FIRMWARE UPGRADE , I can´t complete the fields, becouse in the PRE PAID FORM you permit me select OTHER COUNTRIES, but I must select the field STATE where there is only states from USA or CANADA.

I´m very enthusiast about new features like DMR MOTOTRBO RX in my BCD536. I´have just write to UNIDEN SUPPORT about this issue.

I want to order my pre paid FIRMWARE UPGRADE. I upgraded previous firmware online when they where available.

If you like, I can pay with my credit card or using Pay Pal.

Awaiting your reply, I understand it would be very appreciate for a lot of people enjoying BCD536 and 436 all around the world.

Regards.

Adrian

Before reading the posts on here, I had no clue Whistler even made scanners anymore. I have many Unidens though.

Need to have a garage sale of the older ones. Have to fund new ones and upgrades it seems. Using a computer/SDR stick and software to listen to DMR is a lot of work.

I like the idea of having my Uniden scanner do it all for me. Look forward to seeing this available.

UPMan,

Please allow non North American ESN's (such as those used in Australia, eg: 37601-) to be entered into your preregistration form. Also while you are at it, I repeat my previous request to allow international credit cards or have Paypal facilities.

You are missing out on a further source of revenue.

It wasn't a problem for the 436 since I had already entered the ESN for the Pro Voice upgrade. The 536 wasn't registered until today when I realized that I had never registered that one. I was able to register it, but I can't get the ESN and enter that until it comes back from Uniden.

It will probably work out, I just thought I'd ask.

Please tell me the DMR talkgroups will not need to be entered, but will automatically be shown in the display when received on DMR?

Pretty useless if not, as there are thousands and thousands of talkgroups to try to guess, but only 16 "color codes" and 2 slots.

How is this different than any other trunk system? When a new trunk system goes on line, people spend a lot of time and effort to figure out who the users are. This isn't any different and people have been using DSD+ to figure out their local MotoTrbo trunk systems.

I imagine since it's a digital system, there is likely a function within the software to automatically determine the talkgroup as programmed into the system.

The TG number, but not who is using that TG. That requires listening and trying to figure out who you are hearing. Or having someone read a user radio and share user info.

Makes perfect sense, a la CS750... Tge 750 seems to work fine. For what I've heard of course.

I'm still waiting for the cs750 to drop in price... No price drop= not purchasing it!
