When a dispatcher references a "map page" what is he/she referring to?
And, are the maps available to download?
Thanks.

Map Page

Many departments have "standard" maps books carried in each apparatus, either department/regionally developed or based on a commercial map. It helps the responding crew(s) to local address quickly. Some departments may allow maps to be sold/copied, some don't.

The local county I'm in just took the county may, added 1 mile grids, made each grid a map page, and used that for most county departments. They just assigned each grid a number.

Some departments will have the city or county GIS specialists produce map books specifically for them. You may or may not be able to get a copy of one yourself.

The Sedgwick County map pages are all 1 mile squares with a numbering system that starts in the NW corner of the county and goes west to east. I think I have a copy of their grid at work somewhere. Let me look when I get in today. Ours are 4x4 mile grids in the County and 1/4 mile grids in each city. We have been asked to change it to a countywide grid but so far it stays as is.

I'd never heard the term Thomas Brothers so I had to google it. Those were Map Atlases produced in the early 1900's for the western US counties.

Well, after searching every nook and cranny and GIS file, I cannot find it. Also had no luck looking online. :(
