diy USB cable for pro-2096

Yes. There are several threads here on RR on the topic. For me, I wanted a cable that works with ALL GRE-made scanners. That's a lot trickier. If you just want the cheapest you can get away with, use an old-fashioned COM port. Once you add the FTDI chip, which requires the USB driver, the cost goes up.

I am wanting to do the same thing except for Pro 2055. My computer has a 9 pin (male) serial port. And I can buy a 1/8" MONO plug. I just need to know do I need drivers? Where do I get them? And how do I wire the db9 cable to the mini mono plug? I am guessing doing this SERIAL as opposed to USB will be LESS problematic.

Bob people have answered your post it is not as simple as cutting the end off of a USB cable and putting the 1/8th mono plug on it.
It is 2 different languages SERIAL DATA and USB you need to build the right circuit to convert the data both directions at the correct levels.
If you try this you could kill your scanner and it would cost more than the $30 Factory Cable to fix or replace the scanner.

OK I might as well just order the cable. Its much simpler!
