Baofeng DM32 contacts list getting cut off

I am using official Baofeng DM32 firmware, version 1.47, that Baofeng says that the recording feature has been removed to make room for 150,000 DMR contacts, as opposed to the original 50,000 limit.

I can fit in all of North America, which is over 140,000 contacts. But when I save the codeplug (.data) file, and then close the program and then re-load it, the contacts have reduced to just 3520. The remainder are missing.

So, does saving the .data file not save the DMR contacts list? What happened to the rest of them? Do you have to import the contacts .csv file every time you program the radio?

Sorry I'm late, and hope you've found your answer by now. The CPS doesn't seem to keep the contacts list after closing and re-opening the program. If you wish to keep the contact list somewhat current, start by clearing out the list completely, then load a fresh file with all of the contacts into CPS. Once you have done that, upload it to the radio by selecting the checkbox for "digital contacts". One they're in the radio, it doesn't really matter if CPS saves them or not since the digital contacts are totally separate from your codeplug. Hope this helps.

One issue I encountered was that when I attempted to update the firmware to version 1.47 was that when I pushed the firmware I had the COM port selected to "COMx", where it should have been selected as "USB". With it in "COM" selected, it appears the firmware did not load, but with the "USB' selection, I now have the full 150K capacity.

That's a twist! When I tried to use USB (Version 1.47), it would not connect. It kept giving me communication error. Any insight to what I may doing wrong here?
