To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi,

I have tried to research this and I've found some info, but nothing I'm trying works. As the subject asks, is anyone successfully doing this to access talkgroups that you don't have programmed? I'm attempting to do so on the TGIF Network. The radio works very nicely (for a CCR) for TG's I have programmed. I know...program the talkgroups. Well, there are of course literally thousands and a core group of them I might consider using regularly. On the fly it would be nice to access one and go.

Research led me to create a local TG9 as a channel on the radio, and work from there. I press the menu button, then Talkgroup, then Manual Dial. I punch in the unprogrammed TGID either as a private call (which some research says should be done) or a group call (press # key before entering).

I'm using a Zumspot 3.5" Elite LCD. On the WPSD Dashboard I can see that I'm keying up the TG. It becomes the current listed TG. However, the radio times out and goes back to TG9. The TG I just activated remains active but I hear no audio. I ASSume this is because the radio has returned to TG9.

Either I'm completely missing the boat (likely) or the radio doesn't work in this manner despite purporting to (possible).

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Scott

This may be an "other than the radio" problem (and still simultaneously a "me" problem). I dragged out an old Anytone AT-D868UV and manually entered in my hotspot frequency, CC, and slot as I of course can't find the programming cable for it. Suffice to say its behavior is similar to the Baofeng's in that it does bring up the entered TG, but it does not stay connected. I was able to actually hear audio for a bit until the "Call End" message appeared on the screen, and then nothing after that.

Wonder if it's a WPSD thing?

Nah...it's probably still a "me" thing...but I'm missing something...

Partially answering my own question and leaving the info here for anyone else that encounters this problem.

It appears the simple solution to this problem is that the Baofeng DM32UV does not have the capability to hold on a talkgroup when using the manual dial feature.

There is a method with the Anytone AT-D578UV, AT-D878UV, and maybe the AT-D868UV models. It has to be done through CPS.

Optional Settings > Digital Func > Group Call Hold Time, Private Call Hold Time, Manual Dial Group TG Hold Time, and Manual Dial Private TG Hold Time should all be set to infinite. I have tested this with my AT-D578UV and it works perfectly. Access is from the local talkgroup (9) in my testing but I'd think it could be done from anywhere via Talkgroup > Manual Dial > # key for toggle between private and group, enter TG, key mic. For TGIF DMR the self-care section of your account also allows for direct TG entry. I haven't tested this yet but I expect it will behave the same. As to the 868, there are only settings for Group Call Hold Time and Private Call Hold Time. Naturally I misplaced my programming cable but expect a replacement today so I'll test that.

If there is a way to do this with the Baofeng radio it is not even remotely clear what it is. At this point I don't think it's possible based on what has to be done with the Anytone model.

For the Anytone AT-D868UV, Group Call Hold Time and Private Call Hold Time can both be set to "30m" which is the highest setting. This is apparently the equivalent of "infinite" for this particular model as I've left it alone and it's held on the same TG for several hours.
