So I have been using the 396 and 996 for over a year now and I constantly learn something new or have more questions.

I saw some software that "optimizes" freq lists and TGID lists in ascending order automatically so that the scanner will work better, faster, etc.
(I dont do it that way, becauce I want the lists in Ascending order by the DISPLAY or COMMENT field.)

Another software automatlically deletes all blank lines as the scanner will work better without keeping blank lines in the code. (I sometimes leave blank lines within the software in groups to seperate different categories of things within a group.)

Is these truths or myths? Can someone explain?

The order you sort TGIDs doesn't matter and won't affect anything. Its a good idea to remove blank or invalid ones though because they waste memory.

The order you sort conventional frequencies makes a big difference. Sorting them by frequency, either ascending or descending, helps out a lot with improving scan speed. In my tests, on a 246 it went from 30 seconds down to 5 seconds on a 500 channel system. On the 996 its not quite so pronounced but it does help a lot still.

You might be thinking of FreeSCAN's Automatic Scanner Optimizer, which goes through your programming and does all this for you.

Yep - I was referring to you program. I am in the process of switching over.

I have a hang up with the fact that it doesnt save files per system though - how do I get over that hurdle when I am used to keeping things organizaed on my hard drive?

LOL - I think I just found another reason to hate the sw I am using now. See my other post tonight. I may be using yours before you know it ;-)
