I currently own a Whistler 1065 ( no phase 2) and I have a chance to upgrade to a

Uniden BCD996P2 Desktop Digital Trunking Scanner for a good price.

Do i really need to spend more money on DMR and NXDM ? Im only interested in police and local fire.

If you check the database you'll see that your county police and fire operate here:

Isabella County

Michigan's Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS)
Project 25 Phase II
Primary communications system for Police, Medical and County Fire departments.

The DMR and NXDN upgrades aren't needed if you have no intentions on monitoring anything in the database indicated as such

Your area is still phase 1 because the rest of the state (except Oakland County) has remained phase 1; if there is any DMR or NXDN you want to listen to, sure. But if all you listen to is P25 and analog, there's really no need to upgrade unless you want to spend the money and learn a new scanning structure.
