• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

This option is required to enable the DMR Tier II protocol for the VP8000. VP8000 Firmware version 8.40.x or later is required to support DMR Tier II. Also requires as a prerequisite to have a digital protocol such as P25 Conventional enabled.

Just an FYI the 8.40.13 firmware has been pulled due to an issue per tech support and is no longer available. They are working on identifying the issue and will release a new firmware but could not given an ETA.

I updated my Armada to 1.40.13 and my firmware to the new 8.40.14 in order to load my DMR license and now I lost my keypad programming option and wideband disabled is now checked. Has anyone else had this happen?

Digital such as p25? Is the such hinting at NXDN possibly being added?

Officially, not at this time.

30,000 foot observation, it's not currently a consideration but it may find itself on the road map one day. Tier III and mobile are the next major milestones. Personally, I think that NXDN functionality would depend on what JVCK decides to do with the next gen successor to the current NX-5000's.

Was this the results of upgrading firmware or was it adding DMR option that caused the problem?

My area is going NXDN for public safety, one city is DMR though so this would be a great radio for that if they add NXDN. I'd also like to be able to have p25 on UHF and VHF for coast guard and border patrol listening. I'll keep saving for an NX5000 for right now though

Has anyone tried loading DMR into a radio that is not the VP8000 (VM7000, etc.)? I know they haven't said anything about DMR being supported in radio models other than the VP8000 but it does show up as an available option when you look at the radio properties in Armada. Wondering if anyone has heard anything or tried it to know if it works.

The firmware will prevent that, and in the CEVO (radio config) it is not an option for any radio but the VP8K.

KD4EFM, sorry i know this is not a reply to this thread, however i cannot find a direct message anywhere to ask you a question! :( i am looking at an NX-720HG radio. are you able to scan both analog and digital channels at the same time? currently have an nx-5200 portable that'll do so.... so i want to make sure the 720 will offer that same thing?

we have a mix of analog and digital from where i'm from. want to make sure it's a decent radio that'll do both

evans@rrt2way.com

the NX-720 has the ability to do MIXED MODE RX. then again, I'd point you to a nx-3720 and you'd be happier.
