Does anyone have any experience with DMR on the 996P2? Does the 996P2 receive it any better or worse than the 436 or SDS series or is it a function of the antenna? I currently have a 436 but haven’t upgraded with DMR and am considering a 996P2.

DMR works well on the 996. Keep in mind, however, the 996 does not include LCN Finder for trunked DMR systems. The 436 or SDS would include the LCN finder.

If you don’t have the LCN or LCN finder, does that mean it’s impossible to program a trucked DMR system on the 996?

If the system in question is in the database, and the LCNs are listed, then you can program it.

However, if the system is not listed, but you have the frequencies used, you would need to determine the :LCNs for the scanner to track it correctly. The x36HP & SDS series scanners do have the LCN Finder option. While I am not using one of the SDR dongles, some of the software that utilizes these also can determine correct LCN assignments.

I have DMR enabled on my 996p2, 436, & SDS200 and they all do the job. The audio from the 996 sounds a little off compared to the others and DMR HTs, however its still very understandable.

The main thing I miss on the 996 DMR experience is showing me information on a newly discovered signal. The 436 & SDS200 will show you CC, TGID, etc information about the signal. They'll also expose that information across the "serial port" to programs like ProScan. The 996p2 on DMR however doesn't display that information on the screen or convey it across the serial port to ProScan. That being said, I still enjoy DMR on the 996 and would do it again. "It just works" and falls in line with my 15x/996 view point that they are simple/straight forward to just turn on and type in a frequency and you'll get audio.

In terms of receive quality, I haven't noticed any difference while casually scanning/listening between the 3. So I'd fall back to saying the antenna & location are the prime drivers.

Maybe you already know this about the 996p2 , when you program a DMR system and you press F+6 when on hold it shows you the type of system-along with the frequency, then pressing it a second time shows the CCode, and third time the TG,....

Pretty much the same here, just add an SDS100 and a 325P2. All are close too the same. But - and big but, I have no DMR that interests me. Transit system, hospital maint, and a couple of school bus systems. I do not regularly monitor any DMR.

I didn't know that, thanks!! I'll for sure check that out.

Does that only work for programed systems? Or does it work when you VFO/Direct frequency/frequency scan as well?
