How come DMR sounds much better on my TRX-1 than on my BCD325P2? The audio seems so much more compressed on the Unidens...but on the Whistlers, it's much cleaner. Is it me, or is it the decoding? And I forgot to mention, why is the reception of DMR so much better on the Whistler? Anybody have an explanation?

I concur, same experience here with BCD436HP + BCD325P2 vs WS1080 : DMr is much better on the Whistler —to my ears—.

But I don’t have any technical explanation for that, and you’ll probably have a broad range of opinions too, as “audio quality” is subjective and very personal .. 😉

I agree with you too, The GRE/Radio Shack/Whistler scanners have the clearest DMR reception I have heard.
It is even clearer than an Anytone DMR Ham radio. On the other hand i would have to say they are the absolute worst scanners when it
comes to receiving LSM systems.

Uniden used to have excellent DMR audio but at the time where they added code in their firmwares to handle RAS systems it degraded. JoeBearcat mentioned that Uniden are going to release a new firmware for most scanners where they have improved their digital decode quality. Lets hope that they have found a way to improve the digital audio quality so it will be comparable to Whistlers, or any DMR radios or computer decode programs, superior quality.

I've also noticed that too with P25. It sounds more muffled on my friends 396XT than my WS1040 and TRX-1

I tried my 436HP this evening too and it was also the same muddiness as the 396.

I don't use my 436/536 much at all due to the nasal quality of P25/DMR audio and the poor performance on airband.. The Whistler's certainly recover digital audio better and are much easier to operate than the convoluted mess that is the 436/536 series. Never tried the SDS series as I have no interest or need for that line of scanners.

Whistler does voice trunk instead of control channel trunk. If a conversation drops out of a time slot and then continuous on another, a conversation seldom do that and usually stays on the same TS for the whole conversation, it starts to search thru all slots in the site for that call during the TG delay time. A frequency without any slot active are just skipped and others are checked if they have a flag that says if it carries an active call and Whistler then have to spend time to decode the rest of the information to check if it is the TG that should be monitored. It works slow on a site with many slots active at the same time, but then it doesn't skip active calls like a Uniden scanner might do.

A Whistler does not "track" DMR like Uniden does.
My statement is still correct. They don't behave the same way in the presence of DMR.
At least it does not trunk track. It most certainly does digital better I will say. Both in sound and reception!

Nah, I will stand by my statement. They don't track the same way.

I have the TRX-1 because of the SDS100. I ended up returning the SDS and swapping it for TRX.
