Welcome to the party. I upgraded my 436, and 536 with the DMR upgrade. The scanners will lock on the signals but there is no audio whatsoever. I enabled everything and even programmed in the local amateur radio DMR repeaters with the same result, no audio. Some people are apparently not having any problems receiving DMR, but what you and I are experiencing seems to be spreading.

Can you list what your settings are for the DMR systems you are trying to receive? Are you programming the systems through Sentinel or the keyboard? Some setting, somewhere, just isn't correct. I had the same trouble at first because I was forgetting the 'Service Type' setting - when you create a new channel, it sets to "Custom 1" by default. That has to be adjusted.

I am programming it through Sentinel. I looked in both of my radios and noticed that I could not enable custom one for scanning. I changed the custom one in the text file that Sentinel uses to Security and enabled that. I have a text file with the settings I could send you, but I am not sure how to attach it to one of these replies. Here's a couple of the lines out of the text file that I copied to the clipboard and pasted in here. I hope you can point us in the right direction.

wbswetnam.....Stupid question? How in the world does the scanner know if it needs Custom 1, Law tac or Law Talk if you find a police frequency? and why would the scanner even care which service type you use? Thanks

A Service type is like a group or department, it's a primary check to see what you'd like to hear, along with the secondary check the scanner makes as Alerts, Volume Channel Offset or Text Tag. It give each user a more individualized approach to how they would like to delineate what they would like to hear; whether it be from the HPDB or from a Favorite List. It's compare able to how GRE began to seperate out services in upper scan list. While I drive across county I might just want to listen to a specified type of Radio Traffic and Close Call may not work for me as I might have hoped because a band might just be to busy or completely dead. Instead of bands, it will do it by which Service I might really want to hear. If you don't like using it turn them all on.

So, as I understand the Service type is just an organizer for different settings inside the radio, but you can call all your channels Custom 1 and still the radio will function for general use! Is that correct? Thanks

If the scanner locks on a channel, then the service type is selected (if it was not selected, the scanner would not stop on it...).

There are other reasons that the scanner will lock in and there is no audio. For example, one reason is the signal is just not strong enough, i.e.. you are too far away.

There are ways to optimize, but I am not an expert - others can chime in...

I enabled all the service types and I did a custom scan. I scanned from 460 to 470mhz. The scanner would stop display the type of signal it was receiving all with good signal strength and no audio. It would continue to scan and hit other types of signals p25 for example, stop and plenty of audio. The fact that this is happening on two brand new scanners, a 436, and 536; and others also seem to be experiencing this phenomenon tells me it's most likely a bug. Hopefully Uniden will put out a patch enabling the rest of us who are unable to get their radios working.

That is exactly what will happen if it hits the control channel for a Connect Plus DMR system. Are you seeing a color code and slot? Is the little "CON" lit up in the bottom right of the display?

Yes, I see all that. There are other codes that display as well other than con. I don't have the radio here to describe them to you but I am seeing the con and usually slot 2.

OK, that's a control channel. The reason you don't hear any audio is that there ISN'T any audio on that slot. The other slot on that frequency will be used for audio, and the two slots on other frequencies in the system, but not that one. My suggestion would be to record the color code and other information and then 'avoid' that frequency. Look for other hits (with audio) that have the same CC ... those are probably one system. You may see "Net" and "Site" as well.

There is a continuous stream of digital data on the control channel; that's why the scanner locks on to it.

Not really...the only thing left is the public release of 1.11.16. This firmware seems to be the one, having very good results.

Nope...working well using firmware 1.11.16. Maybe now everyone can take a deep breath and enjoy the effort put into this.

BCD436HPFirmwareUpdate < UnidenMan4 < TWiki

1.11.15 is the latest, released 7/27/2106. Bookmark the above link and you will always have access to the latest version.

No it isn't. The public release latest version is 1.11.15, however 2 days after this one came out, another beta firmware version was released 1.11.16. I posted some results in this thread of my findings between both versions running a 436 and 536 concurrently on the same system. Depending on the type of system you're monitoring, you might be missing some transmissions...I'll let you both get caught up.

I am having horrible results with DMR as well. I have single site systems, cap+ and local ham DMR. Every way, shape and form I am trying is giving me very very little traffic. I have them programmed in multiple formats trying to determine what or where my problem is.

I done a side by side comparison with my Pro-106 which doesn't decode DMR but still gets the signal. My 106 is picking up the full signal while my 436 isn't giving any audio. I have double and triple checked all my settings. I have programmed things in various formats and only on a very few occasions I get a few bits of radio traffic.
